CDS
The Core Data Set (CDS) was incorporated into Standard Information
Management System (SIMS) Statement of Work in July 2003. The purpose of
this task is to standardize the data elements and frequency of data
collection from renal facilities. The standardized data collection
process should be in coordination with the SIMS and VISION projects.
There are six components to the Core Data Set:
- CDC Surveillance Report Requirements
- Standardize Network Roster/Event Data
- Standardize QI Data
- Current QI Oversight Needs
- Future QI Oversight Needs
- Prepare event file for USRDS and UMKECC
There are several common themes that are part of the Core Data Set requirements:
- Identify core set of ESRD Information Technology fields needed for Networks to fulfill their contracts
- Define data elements with existing standards or create the standard
- Collect data in way that is the least burdensome to facilities and Networks
- Eliminate duplicative data collection
- Utilize data collected to analyze and track trends at all levels of ESRD therapy
- Incorporate or link to SIMS
