Launched in early 2003, the Fistula First project is a national three-year initiative to increase the use of AV fistulae for hemodialysis access developed by CMS, all 18 ESRD Networks and IHI.
This project aims to improve vascular access for dialysis patients by reaching or exceeding the K/DOQI guidelines for AV fistula rates for the nation.
